2001 Pinion Seal Problem

2001 Screw, 189,000 5.4L 4x4 Lariat

I have oil leaking in front of the rear dif, and it is slung all over. I believe it is a pinion seal because a u-joint is going bad. I picked up two new u-joints and ordered a pinion seal tonight. I also picked up some 75-140 and limited slip additive. I looked up my codes and it looks like I have a 3.55 LS. I have 12 bolts on my dif so I am guessing 9.75.

My question is how exactly do I replace the pinion seal? Or what do I have to watch out for and mark up for re-installation? Thank you very much for any response.

REMOVAL

1.Remove the rear axle companion flange.

2.Pry up on the metal flange of the pinion seal. Install gripping pliers and strike with a hammer until the pinion seal is removed.

INSTALLATION

1.Lubricate the new pinion seal.

•Use Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B.

2.Use the Pinion Seal Replacer to install the pinion seal. CAUTION: If the pinion seal becomes misaligned during installation, remove the seal and replace.

3.Install the rear axle companion flange.

Thank you for the help. I have one question. I do I get the companion flange out of the dif? I took off the nut but am having a hard time pulling it out.
Thanks,
