I need to do this also.

Anyone?

I guess just take the column cover off and see what we are dealing with.

I wonder if a new boot is all that is needed or a whole new cover.

I've been too lazy to actually look to see what was needed

I was hoping someone had made the repair and could tell me how it was ...

Well, replaced mine today. You have to take off both upper and lower steering column covers and then drive a small pin up through the shift lever to remove it. The O/D wire must be disconnected (it snakes down the top of the column). Then just GENTLY stretch the boot over the wire and off the shift lever. Install is the reverse. Take your time, maybe use some silicone spray.

Thanks for the update

I still haven't replaced mine yet ... The $50 price for the boot has got me reeling

Maybe if I was really bored, and had some extra money, and my truck complete, I would. But that really isnt a focal point of the truck if I may say so myself. 50 for a little rubber boot is crazy.
