Truck starting to get annoying (long story)

hello,
i have a 01 screw 5.4l lariat with 120,400 on the clock currently. truck has been in family since we bought it off the lot... the truck has had regular maintanece except for the prolonged spark plug change time (right around 118,000 miles before they were changed

about the truck and why its getting annoying...
i moved from texas to north carlonia a few months ago, drove my truck up here. while back home everything was great on her, towed ~3,500-4,000lbs two to three times a week with her, just a wonderful truck.
well on my way up to NC i started to have problems, first the heater core busted on me, no deal it was still warm out side, so on the side of the road i cut the heater hose lines and looped them together, (coolant is hot!! ha ha) put some water in the truck and went on my way. well when i got to statesville i brought here to the dealer. Got the heater core replace, heater hoses replaced, spark plugs replaced, fuel filter, rear pinion seal, air filter, oil change, and coolant flush and fill. the truck ran fine for about 3 days, DPFE sensor went bad, replaced that. about three more days later a cop went bad, put a used one on, now about a month later, i am having the same symptoms i did when my first cop went... i didn't have the money to buy another used one, and had to drive the truck. well i have put probably 400 miles on it, i do not know excactly which cylinder is down, but i know i have washed that cylinder bad, i have excessive blow bye of fuel into my oil (which has less that 1000 miles on it) now i have noticed listening under the hood my PCV has gone bad (starting to make a rattling noise) so i need to replace that, i need to change the oil again, i have bought some accel coils to put on (roughly the same price i could find a set of 8 new oem coils)

so besides the possibility of washing out my rings, plugging my cats, ruining my o2 sensors (do yall think i could have already messed something up bad)
i would like y'alls opinions on what i should do when i put my new cops on (ie remove plugs check condition (remeber same as oil right around 1,000 miles OEM replacement platinum) let the cylinders sit open for a couple hours to dry out some from being supersoaked in fuel, or just slap the new cops on and hope she runs right??

my truck is bone stock right now, but future plans i would like to have:
fix the tail gate and other small body imperfections
lowering 2-4 inches (still being about to tow with her)
some 19 inch rims
bed cover
header back exhaust with probably true dual (replacing cats when i do this) (don't feel like going through the hassel of putting headers on....)
and i would love to procharge her. but the f/i will have to wait a while for money...

also where would be a good place to look for replacement tail gates, mine is creesed from a trailer not having the yoke locked before a car was pulled on it..
also the driver side door lets excessive wind through but only intermitantly, and if i putt on the top of the door frame the wind noise stops, i am thinking the door is out of wack causing it to 1 make the wind noise intermitnatly at high way speeds, and 2 making it harder than normal to open, what could i look into about fixing that??

can't help you with your mechanical issues but for a tailgate try lmc truck. Good luck getting your truck fixed.

Welcome to the forums

I too got a trailer tongue in the tailgate, so i know your pain. Keep an eye on your local craigslist and im sure one will pop up, you might even be able to wait until you find one that is your same color

I dont think you ruined the cats, they may be hurting right now but they will clean themselves out again with more use. Same thing with 02s its hard to kill them, even though people often condemn them

#1 you should replace all 8 COPS, use the globals off of ebay or other supplier after you return the accel cops

#2 motorcraft or denso iridium plugs only

#3 you can't repair the truck and keep it running in stock form, don't even consider forced induction until you can.

Replacing all 8 coils because one is bad is a waste of money. They all work independently of eachother and contrary to popular opinion just because one goes bad doesn't mean the rest are to follow. Take that money you were gonna blow on 8 coils and buy yourself a nice code scanner so that you can properly diagnose your issues.

Several guys have experienced one after another going bad, and he has already had two. You can get the Gobal off ebay for what he paid for one, so if it were me, I would replace all of them and be done with it. Maybe keep a few of the old ones for spares.

well on cost i had already done the math and the accel coils are only ~$25 a piece,
i would prefer to buy a full new set, and that is around the best price i have found for a new set. thats why i choose the ones i did.

actually i know hwen i worked at a salvage yard back in texas we would charger around 18 for a used one.. so i don't believe 25 for a new one is bad

Two things, the Globals are less than $100 for eight and secondly, the reason it was suggested to return the Accels is that they have a poor reputation. Some that tried them had failures. You may have better luck.

The two sources that get most recommended are Global and U-neek. It is thought that their COPs come from the same factory and may even come from the same factory as OEMs. Regardless, they have a good track record.

Globals are $65 plus shipping. Acells are junk. Globals are so cheap its really dumb not to just replace them all. The dealers say you should replace the boots every plug change and a whole set of globals is cheaper then what they want for just the boots. The globals or uneeek coils look just like oem with out the label they even have the same numbers stamped on them many think they come from the same manufacture. I bought motoblues for my truck before I heard about the globals and 2 have failed. The globals I bought for my van have been problem free.

same except the flareside beds wont have the "supercrew" under the F150 on the left side of the tailgate

also if you have a lockable tailgate remember to swap the lock cylinders over so you can still utilize that function
