To trade or not to trade?

I currently have my 08 V6, 5-speed F150. It has 10,000 miles on it. I like it but, I would really like to have my 01 back. The other day I found an 04 F150 heritage ex cab 4X4 with the 4.6 V8. Virtually identical to the one I had except for the year. It is an immaculate 1-owner with 40,000 miles for $16,000 (KBB is roughly $17,800).

Currently I also have a 2000 Honda Civic coupe that is my daily driver. No hating please! I kinda feel like I would sometimes rather have one vehicle that I really enjoy and can tinker with but also drive daily. On the other hand I do like my Civic mainly due to 36 MPG. I have done all the math and basicly my payment paments two vehicles would be roughly the same on after all is said and done on the 04. About $300 roughly. I would only be paying insurance and upkeep on one vehicle but I would also be more than doubling what I am paying in gas. Its not a real big deal when gas is $2.50 but if it shoots back up to $4 or $5 again it would cost me more than I am paying out for both vehicles right now. I hope I have put enough facts out there for you guys to have some input here.

Maybe I should just keep what I have but I thought I would run this past you guys to get some other input other than my wife rolling her eyes at me.

Thanks!

The only advice I have to give...is that you'll be pretty upside down on your truck since its pretty new and the resale value drops wayy down very fast, especially on base model trucks. Say you paid $15k or so for it, it'll be hard to get even $10k for it now. But if you keep it, you'll have a reliable truck you can keep for awhile and can be very fun to tinker with while keeping it a daily driver.

Yeah I see what you are saying. The thing is, Im actually sitting pretty good in the truck. Trucks are high here in central Ohio!! There are used trucks just like mine sitting on lots priced higher than what I paid for mine brand new at $12,000. And dealers are moving them. I only owe $8500 on mine. I may just sit tight for awhile. My Civic will be paid off in a couple months. I may wait till then and see whats out there. That way I can have my MPG vehicle to put miles on and have a nice truck that I would be happier with.

BTW, I like your exhaust!

hmm, thats not bad at all. I think its a wise decision to stick with the truck and civic.
And thanks for the compliment

$16k for our body style is way over priced. I don't care what edition it is, not worth $16k. You could get a similar truck as your old one, with the 5.4 and 4x4 for a lot less then that.

If 4x4 isn't a worry just get this and be done with it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-...item3a54f899ce

Thanks for your input here guys! I know it seems rather high but that is just the asking price. I havent even driven it yet. Like I say, trucks are crazy high around here! I have seen cheaper ones around but they have way more miles and not the most well cared for trucks. I dunno. Think Im just gonna pass for now.

Why are you all pushing the 5.4? Not everyone has the same priorities - the fact that this guy is looking at a used 4.6 tells me he doesn't really care about having a fast truck. I sure don't - my 4.2 has enough power for me, even when I tow.

In the end, decisions made to trade vehicles are not financial decisions. They are emotional decisions. Financially, it's almost always cheaper to keep what you have.

And the price for the 04 sounds high to me too. I paid $9500 for my 02 F150Scab5.4FX4 Lariat that had 69k miles on it last April. It's at 80k miles now and not one problem so far!! Knock on Wood!! Found it on craigslist. And individual was out of work and advertised it for $10k.

True...true. I cant decide whats more important to me. I know everyone says the price is high, and yes I have to agree. But like I say, until you've shopped for a FORD truck here in central Ohio, you have no idea how expensive trucks are here. Even trucks on CL here crazy high! Sounds like you got a good deal!! If you ever want to sell it for a profit, bring it to Ohio.

Ater today I am seriously thinking of getting into something else. I love the MPG and actually enjoy driving my Civic when I dont need my truck. Its a 5-spd so that helps greatly. I put a nice set of aftermarket wheels on it and it just looks nice and clean and not riced. The downside to that is, every freakin punk kid thinks I want to race them. Im 39 and usually have my 7 yr-old boy with me. Give me a break!! If I want to race someone it sure as hell wont be in a Civic! Had two issues today with idiot kids and its getting old! And yes I know some of you guys are going to ask what else I was expecting to happen so Ill save you the time and say, yes I should have known this crap would happen. So like I say, I may just start seriously looking into something else.
