02 Door Question

I have a 02 F150, only has 75,000 doesnt get driven allot in the winter, mainly a boat tow vehicle.

I am trying to prevent the rust, it is not bad but there is some, on the bottom of the door were they folded the outer skin over the inner skin from spreading, I have tried to keep any rust that appears at bay by removing it and priming it and then painting it.

Anyone have any advice??

once rust starts....there really is no fixing it without replacing the steel. you could burn it all down with maybe a 3m twist n lock wheel on a die grinder or some 80 grit then POR-15 it, but I used POR-15 on my truck and car in the past and it never really did much for anything except for on the frame rails, but on the wheel arch it didn't help any, the metal rusted behind it and fell off.......On this truck I'm just replacing panels as they rust. IE- my ext. cab pass. door skin..

sand down and remove all rust... my vote is to line-x the whole truck... sounds crazy, but I've seen it done to a Chevy Colorado... looked fricken sick!

This is a common problem in our model trucks. Mine has been rusted slightly for a couple years now at that same location. I haven't done anything about it and it doesn't appear to be getting any worse.

I've had the doors on my '02 done twice now (thank you Ontario for the excessive salt on the roads) and my rear doors are due to be done again. This last time I had the front doors done, I had them apply rocker guard.

I'll be fixing it myself this time... sand it down, rust neutralizer, primer and rocker guard.

Never heard of POR-15 (don't think we have it here in Canada) but I'll be checking that out when I head to the US next time. Looks like exactly what I need!
