dome light out, but everything else works
dome light out, but everything else works
When I opened the door to my 99 f150 xl, I saw the dome light flash out. I have checked all the fuses and they are ok. I have replaced the #1 relay. The bulbs are good. Everything else is working ok but the dome lights? Any suggestions?

OK....I checked to see if I still had light problem ( open driver door, no dome or cargo lights ). I then opened the passenger door. All lights worked. Closed door and went and opened driver door. LIGHTS NOW WORK!??? The only part I replaced was the #1 relay. Why would opening the passenger door get the lights working? Did this act somehow close the circuit in the new relay. Sort od light rebooting? It makes no sense, but I wish to thank all who responded with with info to try.

Bumping this very old thread because I found it while searching. I have the exact same issue with my 2002 FX4.
This has been going on for five years now, it never bothered me but my fiancee hates not having the dome light so I guess its time to fix it haha.
I know the relays, fuses and bulbs are all good. So I'm thinking it has to be a problem like glc said in his post above mine. Does anyone know what senses the door being opened?
EDIT: I found the problem while digging around in the truck earlier.
Relay number 1 in the "Passenger Compartment Fuse Panel" was making poor contact inside the fuse box. I took it out to test it again because it is the interior lamp relay. Couldn't find any issues even replaced it with another relay and still had no light. I gave up and decide to put the stock relay back in. When I went to push it back in, the right(passenger) side went in further than the left side and the dome light came on. Basically it was not making good enough contact with the fuse box, easy fix.
