P0500

Hey, so I've been plagued with a major seeming elctrical problem, hopefully it's just minor. Anyways to get to it last night my air bag light came on..code 52 which I believe is the same as when I replaced my battery it came on now i recently replaced my alternator and i believe thats why its back on. Now to my new code, P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" well I don't know what this could cause but I have alot of funky chit happening. First off truck shifts very hard and high in rpm, speedometer is not working, 4wd low range light comes on when in reverse or drive and goes off and on. If i go from drive to neutral or reverse to neutral I can make it come on and off. Also I just noticed that when in drive or reverse I cannot put my windows down. Can someone please give me some insight into this problem. Could just the speed sensor on the trans cause all this?
Thanks in advance.

Update...Cleared code speedo working again everything working normal shifts properly etc. Did 2 trip logic and still working properly. Is this a intermittent problem? Is the vss bad?

Some more searching has lead me to look towards the GEM as it looks like many ppl have ran into this problem so for anyone following this I will keep it updated as to what I find

The rear axle sensor has nothing to do with the speedometer on the 97.

Check the output of the VSS using a scan tool.

Sorry, should have updated my thread. I found water on the drivers side floor and traced it up to the top left corner of the windshield. Water was coming in and leaking down onto the GEM but luckily I was able to dry it out and all is good now. What a strange run of problems. Windows would only work in neutral, 4x4 engaging on its own and the list went on. Had windshield re-sealed and all has been good.
