Feedback please!

So im looking into a 2003 F150 crew cab FX4. I have owned nothing but mustangs/sports cars all my life and now want a truck. What year did the F150 start the FX4 package? I was looking into a FX2 that turned out to be a fraud with only the FX2 decal stickers. Also is the 2003 a good year? I really like the 2004 and newer body style, but they are out of my price range..

thanks!

From what I have found out researching my truck, the FX4 package began in late 2002. Here's a link to where I started :

LOVE my 02 FX4

I highly recommend a 2003 for a few reasons:

1. No spark plug blowout issues like the 04s...
2. 2003 was the last year of the old body style, which means Ford pretty much had all the kinks worked out.
3. Usually cheaper because they are a little older, but new enough to where you can still find them with relatively low milage
4. Mods are pretty straight forward and usually pretty easy to install even for the guys who aren't that mechanically inclined...

An 03' FX4 paired with a 5.4 is an excellent truck. As others have said, 03' was a great year for our style trucks. Once you find one you like, have them run an OASIS or Carfax to make sure it has been kept up and that it is in fact an FX4 and not one with stickers pasted on. However, an 03' 4x4 package is not that much different from an FX4. Good luck in your searching and post some pics once you get your truck.

If I were looking at getting another truck I'd probably look for an 03. They have more threads in the heads so it fixed the blowout problem from the previous years (97-02). They dont have the Cam phaser issues and electronic throttle body issues of the 04-08 trucks. I really like the 09 so if money was no object I'd get an 09 or a new one.

2003 F150 crew cab
First off, we're called Suprcrews.

I drive 2 03s. My Supercrew and an extended cab at work. Mine has the 5.4 and the work has a 4.6. Neither truck has had any issues.
