Speedo sticking?

Hi guys!

Just bought a '98 F150 regular cab 2x4 with the 4.6/auto in it. It runs good, but the speedometer is sticking a little.

The odometer still ticks off just fine, but the speedo gets stuck a little. When accelorating quickly it keeps up with the speed increase, but under light throttle it will get stuck at say 30mph and then suddenly jump to 45mph.

If I tap on the glass, it will move to the correct speed too. What's the problem here? Speed sensor? Speedo cable?

TIA for any advice you have.

DWR

Well, now it's sticking again. Lol. This thing is really irritating!

Anyone know if these are cable driven speedo's or electronic?

Any updates? My '97 does the same thing: Speedo sticks at 38mph, while odometer functions correctly...

mine sticks but thats because i put on those stupid glow gauges.. the only suggestion i can come up with is pull the cluster out and try and pulling the needle up/out a tiny bit..

My speedo sticking is an intermittent thing, but now my trip odometer won't reset. Kind of a crappy situation, seeing as how the gas gauge doesn't work either...
