i have a tear on my outer cv boot. snow is coming soon so i want to replace it asap. i have a 00 f150 4x4 5.4l v8. how dificult is the process? can i use a split type boot?? i also heard of putting silicon on it the tear for a temporary fix. how long can i rely on the silicon repair?

I would go get a remanufactured axle. Once the boot tears, the CV joint is contaminated and its days are numbered. Being that you have to R&R the axle anyway to change a boot, you might as well just replace the axle.

I agree with glc not only that but the time you will take replaceing just the boot will be alot longer then you think to get it regressed and everything.
