weird noise when start NEED HELP
I have a 00 f150 5.4L V8. i just hit 90000. Over the last 2000 miles a weird noise has occured. When I start the truck it makes a noise coming from the front passenger side of the engine bay. it goes away after about 1 minute or until i drive off an reach about 2000 RPM. you dont hear it while driving just when the trucks been sitting and I go to start it. the noise it makes kind of souds like a diesel truck.. I went to 3 exhaust shops and got 3 different answers from them. 1 said it was manifold gasket, 1 said it was the cat, and the other said it was a lifter.. Im running out of ideas of how to pinpoint this noise...anybody run into this problem or have any encite as to what to do?
I'll throw out another possibility or scenario for you. What brand oil filter do you use and are you using the proper weight oil (5w20)?
The reason I ask is I have read many times on here about start up noises caused by oil filters with out anti drain back valves such as the orange FRAM oil filter. Same goes with using improper weight oil.

yea, i'd get that fram filter out real quick
I have a 2002 supercrew, the same problem started around 80,000 now has 90,000 on it and is getting worse. Any info on this problem will be greatly appreciated!! I have tried everything and as described above same story manifold leak or weak lifter is what im told.

you exhaust manifold bolts my be rusted out, happens alot on these trucks. you put two different metals together they tend to rust quick. my dad has an 03 5.4 cost him $400 bucks and he had that small ticking noise at startup or when it was cold. alot of shops will charge more because they think they have to take the motor out to get to them. the shop i go to he doesnt take the motor out just removes the inner fender well. i have changed manifold bolts on a ford bronco BITA i will never do it again had to take the whole motor out. i would take it to a mechaninc and see if he can see if its the manifold gasket or the bolts its common on these trucks
this noise is very nasty sounding loud like it is tapping and caughing air around something, get about 300 or 400 yards up the road and it almost quits can just barely here until vehicle is shut off for 20 or 30 minutes then started again. the the same routine over again.

Those little things can cost you. The manufacturer does it's best in providing direction. They sticker what to use under the hood and in print inside the glove box manuals. Does anyone pay attention ? Hell know, everyone is much smarter than the manufacturer.
Yea right .Will anyone listen now ? NOPE! - So why bother.
Yea , oil thins out some as it warms up. Internal air malfunction comes thru #4 , -passenger side, then the PCV spouts off. Improper PCV valves cause this and WILL shorten the life of your engine. Well, that and running the incorrect oil and filters.

I am maticulas about my service. I run only ford motorcraft full synthetic and motorcraft filter. This makes since about the pcv valve, spouting off, it is producing sound from the passenger fender wel when started. so I need to replace the pcv valve??
It's very possible, it is a maintenance item. IMO most people change these, the problem is that the wrong part gets installed. There isn't an after market replacement valve that can match THIS motorcraft part margins. For instance, Fram says they make replacement, but their valves are the MOST restrictive, - Out of the box. They can be noisy right after install. I say that because I seen it for myself in an 01 5.4L. It was just tuned up, using the provided parts from the costumer. Make sure they sign a waiver before agreeing to anything like that lol.
