Replace fuel tank?

Posted this on another site without much reply so I thought I'd try it here:

A few days ago, I parked my F150 on a street facing downhill. After ten minutes I tried to start it up. It started initially but died. I tried cranking it several times but it would not start. About 30 minutes later, I cam back and got it started.

two days later, I changed the fuel filter. After I pulled the old one out, I dumped the remainder of gas from the tank side of the filter into a glass jar. Instead of a clear golden color, it was grayish with stuff floating in it. Almost like sediment. I remember seeing that color the last time I changed the filter as well.

It has started OK since then.

Some background: I bought the truck used two years ago. It's a 2001 Lariat Supercrew 4X4 with 5.4L gasoline engine.

I think I should just replace the tank instead of having someone clean it. But, can I trust anything other than a tank from Ford? How much can I expect to pay for this? I don’t have the time or tolls etc. to do it myself.

personally, i wouldnt replace it unless there was a problem. it's not that easy of a job to drop the tank....not the hardest, but not the easiest.

i wouldn't get a new tank eather. just dont run your tank down before you refill, that way all that crap at the bottom of the tank doesn't get sucked in your filter
