Got a new baby!

OK SO, anybody that has seen me around here knows that I was in the market for a new truck. I was driving a '98 Ranger 5 speed and a '97 Hyundai accent 5 speed :o . I now own a 2000 150 XLT! She has 87k on the clock and still runs great. I do plan on doing regular maintenance stuff on her to make her last very shortly. I would do some stuff today, but it is raining pretty good. I have to fix the right side power lock something. When I hit the switch to unlock or lock I hear the actuator and the lock **** (?) jerks a little but it doesn't lock or unlock. I can open the door with the handle and lock it manually, but not with the switch. Not a biggie. Also the switch for the fogs. I turn the heads on and when I pull out to switch the fogs on the **** comes off. There is a little "gripper" piece that is broken off, I can see it. Im guessing that I have to get another switch? The **** is perfectly alright, its the switch I think.

But all in all, it was a good deal. I got her for $8600 out the door with a 3 year/45k mile warranty. The interior cloth seats are perfect and there is no bed liner but it looks like the guy that had it before me hauled nothing but stuffed animals. Maybe 5 little scratches in the bed and NO dings at all.

I LOVE HER!

OK sorry for no pics yet. I have been busy with school and work and it was raining pretty good all day sunday here. I am taking her(haven't named her yet) to get a Line-X next paycheck, so the beginning of next month. After reading around the forums, I have decided that I am pretty sure that my door lock problem is the actuator. I haven't decided if I am going to take it to the dealer to fix it yet, or do it myself. I might not even wait till the next paycheck to get the toolbox for the bed.

But I got to test out the 4wd this morning in my backyard. Since it was raining yesterday I figured I would take her for a spin in the field behind my house. I drove her for a while just doing circles and hitting ruts and hills then I got to an exceptionally wet part, I got stuck in 2 wheel and I put her in 4 wheel and she pulled right out!

I also wanted to know what there is in the way of changing the tie-downs in the bed. Mine are rusty and corroded and they dont seem like they would be good for things like bungees. So is there anything that I can change them to, maybe in a closed loop design? I have been looking a bunch, but haven't been able to find anything that is a viable replacement.

Who needs a girlfriend when you have a truck! I still love her.

congrats on the truck man.

couple things. your lock actuator, check out ford-power-locks.com, they sell replacement actuators for 7 bucks shipped. i got my lock kit and keyless from them and they have worked great. on the light switch, be prepared to spend 70 bucks at the dealer for one because they wont sell you pieces of it but make you replace the whole thing. if you didnt have fogs i have an extra one that would work. and get that bed liner asap. i love that stuff so much i put it on the sides of the truck haha. well worth the money

Other than that congrats and lets get some pics

I think I am going to call a junk yard around here to see if I can get a Light Switch Assembly local. I think it should be pretty cheap also. I have found a bunch on eBay for $15-70 so i may just get one of those also.

And seeing those kits they offer I might just upgrade to keyless entry right away, if I decide to do it. You may hear from me, Jake. The question is on the website, it says the keyless & power lock combination kit is not for trucks with power locks already installed. Should i get this to install to change out the actuator that is bad? Or get the Keyless only kit and buy a separate actuator? Or maybe I can get the combination kit to change out the drivers side actuator even though it isn't even bad, but just as a precaution?

I am having difficulty deciding what I want to do next! Line-X or Toolbox or Keyless and LED tails/third brake or a light bar in front. ugh decisions decisions.

Oh and I forgot to say that I got almost all of the Gotts intake mod done and I had to leave, so I buttoned her up. And as soon as I get to finished sanding the pipe I will install it.

Did the truck belong to Habibi by any chance?

the main difficulty will be using the kit with your factory system. if the factory system only came with power locks with switches on the inside and no remote then you should probably be able to wire up the new kit with the factory switches which is something im looking at doing sometime.

if you can detail what the truck has with the locks like if it flashes your parking lights etc i can help more. also the actuators from the site have two leads from them, one up and one down and im not sure what the stock ones have but i would imagine they would be the same. if you could get a pic of the back of the stock switch id like to see it.

i also have a suspicion on how to make th factory switches work but i cant test it yet since it just started raining here but when i get the chance i will.

I can only lock the truck from the inside so I am assuming the light do not flash when I lock it. I have only seen lights flashing to assure the driver walking away that the vehicle is locked. Im guessing you are saying that the actuator screwed into the body acts as the ground lead of the actuator, and it just uses the 2 wires as lock and unlock.

I will take pictures of the switches this weekend when I dont have school and work.

the actuators i have dont requires a ground to them and i just went out and got the parking lights to flash. since its just inside if you got the $57 kit i got and replaced the actuators and installed the keyless kit youd be fine, ill have to look at the wiring diagram again when i can to see about adding the switches but i know it can be done. overall im impressed by the kit and it makes my life alot easier. only complaint i had till today was i didnt know when it locked or unlocked since i hadnt wired the parking lights. it also has a vehicle locator function that flashes the lights so you can find the truck at night.

Congrats

I am looking at a used 2004 2WD Short bed with a 6 cylinder. It only has 44,000 miles on it. I just need the dealer to get right on the price.

I drove an '05 with the 4.6 and it was to sluggish for my tastes. If yours is going to be the NBS with the 4.2, dont expect to be a speed demon. Now the 5.4 is another question *cough* rocket *cough*. I heard somewhere that they(ford engineers) added 500 lbs just in frame reinforcement on the NBS, im guessing when they went to the fully boxed frame.

Good luck on the negotiations. This is my first vehicle I ever purchased, Ive been looking at buying a truck a year ago. I got real serious in the last 4 months. My requirements were, regular cab, 5.4 if NBS, 4.6 or 5.4 if OBS 8' bed and 4x4. I was looking at not getting power anything just for maintenance when this baby gets old. I ended up getting tired of looking for a truck and having no success. So then I just settled for the one that I bought on saturday. I will tell you that this whole vehicle buying process is way more than i thought it was going to be.
