A question about airbags.

My friend wrecked his truck last week and we've been dumbfounded as to why the air bag's didn't deploy. He had an 01 4x4 Lariat with 137,xxx miles on it. He fell asleep and ran off the road and hit a couple tree's that were about 24 inches in diameter. He hit them hard enough to snap two of them in half. His insurance adjuster came and looked at his truck and totaled it. One of the tree's hit hard enough to wedge itself inside of the front frame where it's boxed. The front bumper is ripped in half and the front quarter panel's and hood is messed up. Shouldn't the air bags have deployed? Luckily he walked away with only a scratch on his fore head.

i don't know...i do know that I wrecked my f150 (98 though) both the airbags did deploy, but they didn't do anything, they just kinda poofed out of there, never aired up, never hit us, didn't do anything except make a mess and allow my plastic to not snap back together

my cousin also wrecked his grand am and the airbags went off about 30 seconds after the wreck happened

basically i don't put much value in airbags anymore
