2002 Supercrew...Need some help.

Right now I am looking at buying a 2002 Supercrew. I am looking for some pros/cons of this truck because I am really having a hard time making my mind up. Also help on if this is a good deal or not. The truck is a 2002 Maroon Supercrew with all the usual extras, along with the nice painted bedcover. Its got right at 170,000 miles on it. He was asking $6500, but told me he would take $6000. Does that sound like a good deal? It has been well taken care of and been service regularly. What do you knowledgeable Ford owners think? My wife already owns a 2004 Explorer and we love it.

Prices are local

I'd suggest you check out Edmunds.com, KBB.com, and the NADA site for prices for your area. It will vary depending on where you live. My 2002 SuperCrew just hit 100K miles and it still drives like it was new (except for some wind noise that always increases as a vehicle ages.) I've been very pleased with it - no problems except for a front pittman arm that needed replacing early on for no apparent reason. Otherwise, it has been super. I had a 5 year 70K mile Ford warrantee and never used it once. I really like my truck and plan to hold onto it until the wheels fall off. Mine also has a bed cover (Snug-Top) color-keyed to the truck's paint color. I have a few hail dings in it, but it still looks mostly like new. Good luck on your decision.

... Duane

I have an '02 SuperCrew

Can't help with the financial aspect. My truck - although 4WD - only sees pavement. It also only has 65,000 miles. I don't have anything glowing to say about it. It works every time I turn the key and has always got me back home. My only complaint is that it isn't comfortable on long trips. There isn't much front passenger legroom nor feet room. I think this is because the computer is located on the floorboard on this side. Definitely less legroom on the front passenger side as compared to the drivers side. The legroom in the rear is terrible. I am 6'-4" and would hate it back there. For me only the drivers seat is comfortable. With the kids in car seats it essentially makes them tall people too. As they get bigger they are getting cramped sitting behind me - no leg room while having to sit in car seats. There is plenty of room for kids not in car seats. Car seats - this truck doesn't have the LATCH anchor points. My truck has been good to me and has only cost me one major repair - I had to replace the sunroof. $1800 bucks. Can you say OUCH? I did, but it was stuck open and they said it had to be replaced. I am no one to say otherwise.

id check the nada and kbb as suggested earlier because 170K is alot for an 02 but these trucks run long. i have a 98 with 133K on the body and the only major repair was the engine was rebuilt for a possible blown head gasket or broken rod ( dad cant remember) but mine has been great to me. it get the job done and has been used and abused and is still in great condition and i plan on keeping it until it doesnt run anymore and then rebuilding it as a toy but im not sure on the 6K for it it may be much or it may be a good deal depending on what you plan on using it for but i do know these trucks last,

for me out here in delaware, that NADA told me retail would be 6,150 for my 97 with a 160k so that is up to you as far as the price goes, i personally love these trucks, the looks of them and the durability, the only rust i have on mine that i have found is on the frame, and the usual spots like the rear and d-shaft.

P.S(I have never gotten stuck yet)

I have checked KBB and do have an idea about the price. For my area I think it is a pretty good deal. I guess I was looking for more personal experiences with the trucks like you guys gave. Thanks.

I have a 02 Screw 5.4L that I bought with 114,000 miles about 2 1/2 years ago. It currrently has 136,000 miles on it and I never had any problems with it. I paid $14,500 for it from an individual. I'm 6'-5" and have plenty of leg room in both front seats, even with a car seat in the back (check out my gallery). The F-150 Scab I had before had a 4.6 and 186,000 miles on it and was still running strong.

I think it does have the records. It has a 4.6L motor and usual extras are things like power door locks/windows, towing hitch, alloy wheels, and new tires.

02 Screw 4.6 160,000+ miles. Lot of road trips on mine, that is high mileage for that year. Knock on wood the truck runs great! I don't have any regrets with it only thing that has gone wrong with it is I had to replace the EGR a few years back. I think I could probably squeeze $6,000 out of mine if I sold it but only b/c the mods that I have done. Does the vehicle your looking at have anything done to it?

I think the price is decent but not great. I would be most concerned about the transmission service schedule and if it was followed very closely, and if its has ever been rebuilt or replaced.
