e4od transmission

I have heard that 97-03 ford trucks had the e4od transmission. Is that true? who hear has a 97-03 truck equipped with one? was it an option with the tow package?

Think 98 was the last year. If you got one it's a good tranny.

97-98 5.4 equipped F-150's generally came factory equipped w/ the E4OD. the only 99+ F-150's that received the 4R100 (updated E4OD) were the Lightning, and the seven lug 7700 F-150.

E4OD is an excellent transmission. Had one in my 96 full size Bronco. Over 100k on that one and no problems whatsoever. Pulled an enclosed 6x10 trailer many miles.

Don't most 97-03s have 4R70Ws?

It's on the door sticker. There's very little difference between the E4OD and the 4R100.

E4OD/4R100: code "E", 20 bolt pan
4R70W: code "U", 14 (?) bolt pan

You will never find a E4OD/4R100 behind a 4.6, only a 5.4, on a 97+ F-150.
