Scored on a 97 4.2, has OLD gas in it, whats the best way to get rid of it.

I just bought this truck off my neighbor, it's been sitting for 2+ years. it has over a half a tank of fuel.

I replaced the Starter, and put some fuel replenisher in the tank...and it started up second try believe it our not. My neighbor was really bummed that I got it started so quickly..Since I got the truck for 100.00 dollars , hahahah No joke.

Well, My main question is; is there an easy way to remove the old varnished fuel. I tried to siphon it, however I can't get into the tank...is there a Screen or does anyone know a way of doing this?

Also what other recomendations would you advise to make it run better since it's been sitting for so long.

My main concern is getting the fuel out, but I dont want to drop the tank. Is it bad to fill it up with Fresh gas and mix the two...

Thanks

This is just a guess.........

Remove the fuel filter, and connect a hose to the line coming from the tank, put the other end of the hose into an empty 5 gallon can, and turn on the key. Shut the key off when the can is close to full, go dispose of the gas properly, repeat till the tank is dry. Put a new fuel filter on it.

Get enough fresh gas in it to get to a gas station, put some good injector cleaner in it and fill the tank.

Replace tuneup items such as plugs, wires, coil pack, and air filter as necessary.

If the pump won't pump the fuel out, put a new fuel filter on it, and go fill it up with premium high detergent gas and injector cleaner.

Best injector cleaner is BG44K if you can find it, otherwise Techron is decent.

Change the oil and tranny fluid - drop the pan and drain the torque converter. Change the coolant.

.... and being that it's a 97 4.2L, make sure the timing chain cover gasket has been replaced. Congrats on the truck, what a great deal!
