Question Truck squeaks when backing up

I have a '99 f150 2wd with ~118,000 miles on it and I get this squeak when I back up. It's not a constant squeak but it squeaks at a regular interval that slows down or speeds up as the truck does. Any ideas on what is causing it?

I had the same prob with my 03 fx4.. I just had the rear rotors turned and new pads and now no squeaks... Mine did it bad especially after a rain storm.. If you have drums I would replace them and get some new semi metallic shoes..

Check your driveshaft universal joints. Mine started squeaking when I backed up and then it progressed to squeaking in drive constantly. I had mine replaced and no more squeaks

Yep, I've heard U-Joints do that and the rear leaf springs as well. U-joints or Spring stops/liners fix it.

- Idunno, those Ford zerkless u- joints can last a LONG time. I've got over a quarter million miles on both front and rear and I'm not easy on them lol.

But yea, IF they squeak, their bad. I've heard the rear squeak on a guys 97 F150 w/4.6L that I worked with. The guy kept putting it off for 1/2 the summer, - there was even a chunk missing or something broke/busted off on the joint, but he kept driving it that way. I thought for sure it was going to let go on him while on the road. I kept on him to get them changed ,-at least that rear. He finally did and was lucky it didn't let go, - real lucky.

BTW - He has more miles than I do on my 5four. These trucks last along time as well.

u joints are fairly easy to change as well..even if there is no play in the drive shaft they could still be shot..i couldn't even wiggle my drive shaft..there was no play in it at all..when i changed the rear u joint, there was needle bearings everywhere. don't wait till its to late. i had one on an older f150 break and damaged the fuel tank really bad..also i would recommend the ones that you can grease
