Exclamation Is it the Battery?.....

Hello, I have a quick question. I replaced my battery today after the truck has been sitting for 14 months due to me being in Iraq. I replaced it and nothing..not even dash lights or horn. But it is making a clicking sound in my fuse box even when the keys are not in the ignition. So then I checked the fuses and nothing is wrong with them, so I cleaned the connections again made sure they are connected right and now it is doing nothing not even the clicking. Did I buy a bad battery? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Are you referring to your Moped or what?

What are you talking about?

hey dude, welcome to the site. if you could just post some details about what truck, year, engine, etc. that would make it easier for people to troubleshoot your problem. sorry, i don't have the answer for you, i'd start with trying a new battery and if that still doesn't work you may have to start looking into relays/fuses/solenoids or whatever. good luck man!

Based upon where he posted, I think we can assume it is a 97-03 F150. I'm guessing either a V6 or a V8. Are the electrical systems that much different?

Did you clean your battery connectors? They may be a bit corroded after sitting too long.

Oh, and whatever you were doing in Iraq - thanks.

Sorry I forgot to put all that info in. I am just getting fustrated right now. But I have a 2003 F-150. V6 and it is standard..not an automatic. I put in a new battery yesterday and nothing. I have not done anything to it today because I want to see if anyone has any advice before I blow this truck up!!!
Thanks..

Check the battery ? What fuses were checked ? There should be a little book in the glove compartment that directs you to the proper fuses.

The connections that are problematic are one the starter itself. Crawl under and check them out.

Don't get mad yet, nothings busted..-At this point anyway.

Yes, it could. I would check the fuses for that as well. There's probably inlines hanging under the dash for that.

Well , check what's been said first - go from there. Do you have some kind of fuse strap connected between the Pos/Neg cables by the battery ? Some of those do.

You also could have a rodent issue, if you see any signs I would take it to a shop. You also could try jumping it to see if it is the battery or not.

You could have purchased a dud for a battery. Take it back and have it tested.
If it checks out reinstall and try the headlights. If they are bright it could be the positive cables to the starter. Check for corrosion. While under there check the ground cable too. The cables are know to corrode and wick up the cables and cause a no start condition. If all that checks out disconnect the alarm system and try starting the engine.

agree that it is a connection issue from the battery.......I had a "clicking/stalling" issue and the cause was the oem battery connector. Even when tightened all the way, it was still loose.

make sure that your replacement battery doesn't have smaller battery studs.

As JMC said check all battery cables from the battery to to the fuse box which was making the clicking sound.

JMC didn't say that, your going to confuse the OP lol, I think he probably found it by now.

JMC said to check cables to the starter. I said the same earlier. - That is a common problem with these trucks. JMC added other good idea's/ tips as well.

BTW- Cables don't run to the fuse box lol. Anyway, we covered fuses earlier.

But yea, a loose battery clamp could be the problem. I tried those quick release clamps once , they were tight, just cheaply made. They would loose their connect once in awhile.
