Exclamation My dads truck just burnt down!!

Got a call from my pops today saying he was watching the fire department extingish his crew cab in his work parking lot. He saying it was running fine and about 45 minutes after he parked it he got a call over the intercom saying "would the owner of a green ford f-150 please come to the parking lot, your truck is on fire"

I believe its an 01 or 02 lariat, well it was an 01 or 02 lariat...

Could be a victim of the cruise control switch recall I've read about?

And more importantly is my 04 crewcab in danger?

Thanks guys

I'll post pics in my gallery

Bingo. I bet he never had the recall done. They are rare, but it does happen. That sucks for your Dad man, sorry to hear that. I had mine done a couple of years ago. It took 5 minutes (but I wouldn't tell him that, no sense in throwing more kindeling on the fire...)

ANyway, if it was a faulty cruise control switch (which I am guessing it was), you should be all set, as the newer models (04s and up) don't seem to be affected by this. I could be wrong, but I think your 04 is in the clear.

Yup, seen similar photos many times of the cruise control fires. I hate to say it, but shame on him if he has owned this truck since new and didn't get the recall done. It was national news years ago when it was discovered and Ford should have mailed recall notices (at least they did for me) and an FYI article about how to disconnect the cruise control until it can be brought in for the recall. Sorry to see this, at least it wasn't in a garage at night in your house. I seem to recall a member posting about his garage and truck being burned down due to this years ago.

No, your 2004 has not been involved in that recall to date.

If he doesn't have comprehensive coverage, he's on his own.

If it makes him feel better it's "cooler" for it to go by defective part than to be dumb enough to throw hot yard waste in the back to dispose of and then go to dinner. Don't ask....

That sucks Damon, I couldn't imagine seeing my truck up in flames.

Alright he just got off the phone with the insurance company and hes covered but the 08 Camry next to him is only covered up to 10g's. But he should be gettin a check of the appraised value to get a new truck. Hes building a 36 ford truck rat rod right now

Did the car parked next to him get damaged too? Kinda looks like it from the photo.

My neighbors house burned down when her Crown Vic went up in flames. Her husband, who had passed away 4 months earlier, was too sick to take the car in and she never knew about the recall. That was a year and a half ago, and she still is living with relatives. Really sucks, it's what, a $35 part?
