"Extra?" Connector and tranny vent

OK, so I got under the new truck (1999 F150 XLT 4.6L Automatic 4x2) today. Did the oil change working on the coolant flush. I noticed a couple of things that looked out of sorts.

1. There is a pigtail of the wiring harness that has two connectors on it. One is a single wire that is connected to a sensor in what looks like a water passage directly behind the PS pump. I'm assuming this is the egine temperature sensor, but I'm more familiar with this being on top of the engine. There is another branch to this pigtail with a multipin rectangular grey connector which is just hanging and I can't find anywhere that it looks like it should go. Is this for some accessory I don't have, or should it be plugged in somewhere?

2. There is a large (2"?), round hole in the botom of what I guess is the torque converter housing at the front of the transmission. It is wide open, no screen, plug or anything. Am I missing a plug or screen?

I only have a Haynes manual, since I got the truck Friday. There's nothing in it on either of these questions.

Thanks,

Al

Not sure about your first question, but there is supposed to be a round rubber plug that fits into the bell housing of the transmission.

1st Question

Well, I know this post is almost two years old, but a Google search brought me here. I found the same connector (ref: question 1) under my 99 F150 today. I'm going to keep searching, but if I don't find anything I'll take solace in the fact that someone else has an F150 with an extra connector hanging from the bottom of it.

Maybe someone else will stumble on this one day looking for the same thing. Or maybe this will revive this topic and someone can answer what the connector is for. It hangs near the drivers side front axle.

Thanks.
