1997 production
That's the oldest I've heard of, mine was April 24 96 and I've always thought it was one of the first. They are classified as 96 1/2 models, and the only differences I've found between mine and the 97's is; the header panel that holds the headlights, and the way the coil packs are mounted on the Front of the engine, on my 4.6.
"...The 1997 Ford F-150 pickup was introduced at the North American auto show in January of 1996...They were trickling into dealer lots by March....
PFA, the Kansas City and Kentucky plants were the first to start building the '97.
If you look at your VIN the last six positions are the build sequence number.
With a January build, position 12 should be an 'A'
The last five positions are the count.
so 'A00500' would be the 500th truck built at that plant.
When the plant builds 99,999 units the 12th position rolls to 'B' and the count starts over.

The newspaper had a front page article when the first '97 rolled out of the Norfolk plant. 'A00001' was given to the City of Norfolk with the mayor behind the wheel.
Some city supervisor probably racked up 250k before the end of last century and it was most likely auctioned off for few hundred bucks.
