lifting my 2000 xlt ext cab.

hey guys im new to this site and have been reading a lot of the great forums on here and have seen some trucks where they have "cranked the torsion bars". im just curious as to what this is and how it works and maybe some picture of how to do it. i like the look of the trucks that have it done and want to do it to mine, so any info would be great!
thanks, Ben

1. Jack the front end off the ground
2. place jackstands
3. spray some PB Blaster on the adjustment bolts
4. Mark the head of the bolt so you can accurately count the number of turns
5. Make 3 equal turns on each side
6. drop the truck down
7. check ride heigth, see if you like it. If not jack it back up and do 2 more turns each.
8. When you are happy, go get the truck aligned.

Pretty simple

go to the front of the truck, there will be 2 bars the run though a crossmember and into a control arm (1 on drive side 1 on passanger side)

follow those bars back towards the end of the cab. they will go though another crossmember and thats where they enter the Torsion Keys, then under that crossmember and the torsion key adjustment bolts.

hope that makes sence

Don't sweat it, we were all nubes at one point. Just make sure to get an alignment afterwards. You're ride will be a little stiffer but it's worth it IMO...

is it mandatory to get an alignment cuz ive read that you dont have to as long as you dont crank them to much

yes get an alignment. Some say its not that big of a deal but it really is. Any time you mess with the torion keys the truck needs to be re aligned.

I drove mine for 2 months before i got the BFG's on it with the torsion bars cranked and stock tires and the tires werent even salvageable.

heating and cooling

i have a problem with my damper closing and opening sometimes my truck will be on cool air conditioning and when i give it gas or hit a bump in the road it will switch to heat other days i cant get it to switch over to heat till it feels like it again with a bump in the road or a turn of a corner , i am suspicious that the problem is a vaccuum leak behind the instrument cluster anybody have ideas for me or similiar issues
