150k + or - 1k

I was wondering what i should do to the olde 97 4.6.

already done:
1.Changed the plugs/wires at 135K
2.Replaced calipers, rotors, pads, shoes, and rear wheel cylyinders
3.Changed the fuel filter at 148K
4.replaced air filter at 130K
5. chaged oil+filter every 3k

What hasnt been done ever i think, i inherited this vehicle.
1.Tranny fluid or filter
2.Rear/T-Case fluid
3.uhh..., I imagine my dad never changed anything else but the oil and filter.

I did the everything after i got it, but now i will actually do the oil every 2500 or 7 weeks whichever1 comes 1st, i want to keep her going for a while you know.
I was wondering if it was 2 late to change all the other fluids.
Thanx

I was wondering about Zmax also, I sadly had succumbed to it before doing research and have already poured it in. I guess Ill see how it does over the past months or whatever. I was convinced though it will do something haha, hopefully it doesnt have any negative results like people have been saying on here. Those are older posts though, perhaps they've changed their formula for the better by now.

coolant. Use distilled water. You don't need any additives.

The coolant needs water in it to work right. anyway, a 50/50 mix still gives you -30 degree protection or something like that.

how does the fluid look on the dipstick for the trans? how does the tranny shift?

Agreed, you need to run distilled water and antifreeze both to make "coolant" 50/50 is standard, but you can mix according to your area's needs.

ohh that is where the water comes into play, i know one thing though i am not paying 10 bucks a gallon for 50/50, i will mix my frigggin own, i need what like 4.5 or 5 gallons right....

It looks like it is still farely good it shows red on my finger so..., it has always had an overdrive shift problem where it likes to viberate like He(( but other than that it shifts good i think for a 97.
Now it is starting to get a hesitation when you shift from P to D etc, but that could be my over concerned head.

What antifreeze do you rec.. or does it mater.
Distilled water is the stuff you buy at the store correct.

I just remebered the rear feels like the posi-trak is kinda locked, it will spin the tires now under 1/4 throttle after a stop/and turning. I.E coming up to a stop sign, accelaerate and turn and the wheels feel like they are chirping. It is not on a wet road.
It also looks like it is leaking/expeling fluid out of where the d-shaft goes into the rear.
Is there a like a vent or an excess fluid drain there or something.

My 2002 manual recommended using whatever was in it, color wise. Mine had green stuff, the old type and I had plenty in my garage, so that is what I used. I just drained the radiator which is only about half of it and refilled. I'll do this every year instead of every 2 yrs.

It also said do not mix the green stuff with the long life anti-freeze (red?).

You a have a 97 so it should be green unless some one has switched, and unless you do a complate fluch not just a drain and fill like most people do do not switch from the color you have(unless it is dex-cool, in that case go do it right now). The best way to do your rad is to drain and fill every year. As far as the water I have always used tap and had no problems and that includes at the shop I work at were we have a 3 year 36,000 mi. warrenty.
Not seeing your leak to me it sounds like the pinon seal/in put seal. Your diff should look like oil if it is black you should change it and you will need some type of additive for you it to be right.

it is right in the center of where the universal joint would be if it was tight to the rear. it looks where it seeping from that would be a better way to describe it, has a funnel shape into the rear.
As far as i know the coolant is what the put in it at the factory
IDK thoguh cause it kinda had a rust color to it

The green coolant is just fine for what you need, as long as it is mixed correctly. The Orange/Red coolant is long life stuff, and has been known to eat through rubber hoses, but I'm sure there is stuff out there that doesn't. Just do your research on it if you're unsure.

If you are going to use the orange stuff, be sure to flush your coolant system completely.
