rear axle swap questions..

Well today i was able to pick up a complete disc brake 8.8 rear axle assembly for $200.. came out of a 2001 F150.. Im going to be swappin it in place of my 98s rear drum 8.8.. questions are: are the actuall axles themelves the same?? it looks like the passenger side shock can mount either forward or reverse.. on my 98 both shocks face towards the rear.. the new 01 should be able to accomadate this correct??the flexable brake line should just bolt up to the axle itself correct??and without the axle code off the truck is there a way to decifer the tag on the axle so i know whats in it?? thank you

you realize you'll need more underhood parts to make the swap work, right? the search button is your friend here...

the shocks will be mounted on your truck the same way as they are now. there is a shock mount on both sides because some years came factory equipped w/ the "staggered shocks" to help control axle wrap.

for the time and headache required to make the discs work, you would have been better off swapping in a disc 9.75. much stronger axle than the weak 8.8.

what other parts could i possibly need??? screw the 9.75.. its waaaayyyy too heavy besides the 4.6 is stock.. i dont care about a bigger stronger rearend.. the 8.8 works perfectly for what i use it for.. i guess the reason i do this swap is because the shoes on the stuuuuuupid azzzz drums wear out soo fast on my truck.. i did the rear brakes last year and now they are already worn out.. if im gonna buy cheap pads/shoes i want it to be easier to change out.. the shoes are such a PITA to change that the 200 spent on this rear end alone is equal to new drums and metallic shoes.. not to mention itll stop better with the discs..

the search button on this site to me doesnt work.. i can NEVER find any info on the questions i ask..
