5w30 vs 5w20 with 152,000 miles
1997 f-150 4.6L with 152,000 miles. I have owned it since 68,000 and was using mobil 1 up until 10,000 miles ago when I started to use the motorcraft semi synthetic 5w30. I switched because of all the bad rumors going around about mobil 1 and to save some money on changes. My question is, with that many miles, would it be ok to go with the 5w20? The 5w30 is hard to find where I live and I use the 5w20 in the old ladys mountaineer so it would be nice to have the two trucks the same. I always use motorcraft filters and change at 5k. My thought is that it would be ok but just looking for some opinions. Thanks for any input.
my truck calls for 5w20. i've got just about 122 on the clock & i just use the kendall blended oil we have at the shop (im cheap), lol.

Use 5w20, change it and the filter at 5 to 8000 and have no issues.
The company specs this oil.
Why would anyone want to out guess the factory on their own product 'and warrenties'?
115K and never any other oil as well as towing at 12,000 lbs gross weight.
Motor is as guiet as a new one.
A point that is missed by most owners is that heavey oils on start-up, produce higher oil pressures and put too much tension on the cam chains and wear the guides excessivly, as well as not cold oil the motor as well. Higher pressure is not the answer.
Heavier oils are old time thinking now in these new designs, since 97..
