I'm pretty sure it's a SOHC. The only 4 valve 4.6 I think were available in the Lincoln Navigator. I also know that 4.6 had an issue with spark plugs coming out due to thread failure.

As far as coils and plugs go, I only stick with Motorcraft brand, but that's because the 4.2 liter likes nothing else.

Your truck is 2 valve. Granitelli COPs have a terrible reputation. See if Global has them.

Stear clear of the pick & pull's for these type parts. Use the Motorcraft plugs only everyone here has had problems with other brands. Try these if yours has the COP's (Coil On Plug). They are guarranteed for life and at a good price. Others have used the one's from Uneek Auto and had good results as well here's the link. OBTW make sure you grease the boots with dielectric grease. Here's the link.

I've been running them for a year and a half or so. Do a search on COP's or spark plug change. There has been a lot of posts even testimonials. These are guarranteed for life and a full set for less that what one new motorcraft cost. You could also look for a set for the v-10 they are the same and you get 2 for spare. I've seen some guys use the ones from Uneek Auto that say they are just as good but I don't have any personal experience with them.

Many have had great success with the Global and as stated, they some buy the 10 pack just in case there is a bad one. They are cheap enough, you don't won't to mess with returns.

The DOHC Navigator engine is a 5.4L I believe. The Aviator had the 4.6 DOHC I think. No Ford truck as far as I know ever came with a DOHC.

The DOHC engine is unmistakable. The valve covers are almost 1 foot wide. If you see one, you will know.

Some how between my dad's truck and the 6 E-250's at work i ended up with an extra set. I could always pre-grease the boots and have them ready the next time i go into mine. Doesn't hurt to have spare parts ya know.

I have also used global coils with good luck. The important things are use only motorcraft NGK or denso plugs those brands have been know to work. Use LOTS of dielectric grease on the boots to waterproof them no grease = short coil life.
