All fogged up!
All fogged up!
Hello all, Here is my problem.
99 v8 4.6 Flareside
My windows (on the inside) are fogging up really bad. I am still running the heat because early in the morning it is still chilly out. In the afternoon when it warms up, even with no heat or air running, there is something (moisture) leaking out of my vents causing the windows to fog really bad. there is also a smell of something coming through the vents, not sure exactly, but something along the lines of anti-freeze smell.
What would cause this moisture to be coming from the vents, even when the fan is off?
Thanks

heater core x4...
classic symptoms of heater core leak...foggy windows and anti-freeze smell inside the truck especially when running the heat.
I just changed one out a couple of months back with those exact symptoms, and now...no smell and no foggy windows. However, that was on my old beater '90 Ranger. The heater core on it is a snap to change. These F150s, from what I understand, not so easy. Complete dashboard removal is required if I am not mistaken.
Side note just for grins...the heater core I recently replaced on the Ranger had been installed by me in 1994 to replace the leaking original. So I got to test Autozone's lifetime warranty...it worked! The purchase in 1994 was still "in their computer system." They gave me another one with no hassle.

If it smells like waffle syrup in your truck, and your windows feel "oily" then definitley the heater core. Replacement was a pain in my 2002. I almost wasted a whole day doing it, almost the entire dash had to come off. Be sure to clean the windows really good with windex on the inside after you install the new one. The antifreeze compuonds tend to "stick" to the glass. When you get in the next day it will still fog up unless you clean it well. It takes a good scrubbing and a lot of paper towels to get it all off the windows.

Thanks everyone, it seems like everyone is leaning towards the heater core. I have not used the A/C yet, so i doubt its freon. I have never changed a heater core before, will all the info be in my Hanes repair manual?
Also, what do one of these heater core's go for? $$$
Any tips or tricks that anyone encoutered While swapping the new one in?

Meguairs window cleaner works the best as far as areosol cans, if you can find some cinch glass cleaner that is the best liquid i have found, aerosol's usually work the best tho

If anyone has replaced a heater core on their own please answer me this question. In my Hanes manual it states to De-pressurize the A/C unit and when your done to re-pressurize and fill the A/C unit back up.
Does that step have to be done?
The sticky i am going by does not say anything about de-pressurizing the A/C unit.
