New f150 owner wants an exhaust

I just bought a 1997 F150 crewcab long bed 4by4 all stock and want to throw a new exhaust system on it. Does anyone know if Ill be able to put a long tube header system on it and still make it pass smog. If not does anyone have some info on a good exhaust system utilizing shorty headers that will give me some gains.. Thanks

Oops sorry about that its a 4.6L I'm new to this forum thing Ill try and get some pictures up soon. Not to mention new to the big truck scene I've only owned small fords (67 mustang and just sold my Ranger) I decided to upgrade because I might need a 4by4 where Im moving and I saw this one sitting on a lot all stock and thought it would be fun to put some personality in it and try something new.

With the 4.6l Cherry bomb extremes sound GREAT. Cut out the second set of converters. Its a great deep rumble, with no crackling.

i've read that shorty headers are pretty much pointless to run...PITA to put on and no real gains

actually shorties are fairly easy to install but you are correct they are pointless and only change the tone/note of the exhaust giving people the false sense of power gains

I'm still waiting to see pics of this crew cab long bed F-150
