4r70w tail gasket questions

ok i need to find out some things about unbolting the extension housing/adapter plate from the end of the 4r70w trans for a 1997 4x4

how many bolts are there around the end of the tranny for this gasket? i can only see about three and only in the lower part/area of the adapter.

i see 9 bolt holes in the new gasket..

which way are the bolts pointed/installed ?? the ones i can see are installed from the rear of the truck with threaded end pointed forward.

upper holes dont seem to have any bolts at all in them.

do you have to remove the transfercase from the adapter plate to get to any internal/hidden/blind bolts that may hold the plate to the end of the transmission case ?

any pics would be great!!

i have been trying google, and am coming up with nothing good

ok update: i have found that some of the upper bolts are actually snapped off and thats why i dont see some of the bolts...

wow...

how in the hell did that happen ?

help thanks

There should be 6 bolts I believe. If you only have 3 that might explain your leak. They all go in the same direction, toward the front of the truck. You don't have to unbolt the t-case from the adaptor, but it's pretty heavy/awkward if you don't. I think there was a thread in the transmission section not too long ago that has some pictures that would help you, I'll see if I can find it.

Hmm, the pictures I was thinking of don't really show anything. Does this help you at all?
