mis-firing engine (going nuts!)

hi all, i have a 2000 f-150 5.4 auto that has just over 116,000 miles on it. i had it tuned up (at the ford dealer) about 20,000 miles ago. recently its developed a miss thats driving me nuts! the thing is throwing no codes what so ever. no engine light either. it seems to be getting worse almost by the day. its most noticable under a load, throughout the entire rpm range. although it also missed at an idle, just not as noticable. without a code to go from, im not sure where to start. i believe its either an arcing something or another, possibly a cracked plug, or maybe even a coil going out. but i would think any of those issues would throw a code. i bought the truck new and have been very happy with it until tonight. lol

i dont want to just start replacing things blindly, after all, their almost giving new ones away. lol any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm willing to bet it's a or some coils gone bad. Mine did it, replaced all of them and whamo, problem solved. Also, I was advised to load the boots up a bit with silicone dielectric grease to protect. Ebay has coils, sets, for under $100. Search DG508 and it will bring them up, almost certain that's the number. Mine never threw out codes either which was strange.

I was told by one mechanic not to use Bosch plugs and to stick with Autolites. Also another mechanic said to watch out for the threads on the heads. He said they do a lot of helicoil inserts on Ford heads. I sure hope changing the plugs and coils fixes your problem. It is strange that it's not showing up with any codes.

Don't use

Bosch.
Autolite.

Autolite does manufacture a copper plug that is supposably suppose to work. You need to find out wich one. It's not the standard dbl plats. It's a game with those above, sometimes they work/ sometimes they don't. I wouldn't chance it.
