coobies5, I'm gonna send you a PM

you're gonna need the solid cam gears from paschal performance, custom adapter plates so oyu can maintain the 2 valve 4.6 intake, custom exhaust, a good tune and healthy torque converter

If its a complete drop out, couldnt he just slap the standard throttle body on the front of the 5.4 3v intake manifold? The exhaust manifolds and trans should all bolt up right?

then just get a custom tune, and intake tube.....

Or am i way off?

your 4.6 is fine besides 1 head right? sell it to a junkyard or part it out on ebay. that should give you some money to buy a complete motor so you don't have to worry about parts working and not on the engine itself. i believe the motor mounts to the tranny without any modification so you would just have to worry about wiring. and thats what sucks! and then a free excuse for custom tuning!

wait are you talking about a 3 valve as in the engine in the 04-08's?

well just the one port for the one cylinder on one head, but my truck is in the shop right now, and its supposively getting fixed. lol on tune, too bad i'll have to take the truck somewhere to get it tuned, it'll be cool, but sucks cause i just got my vmp tunes perfect the other day, finally got the speedo problem fixed, now this! =[
and yes the 3v is 04+

yea i wasnt thinking about the cams being variable advance....

An older 4.6 4v and 5.4 4v intake manifold should fit the 4v heads right? then he could still use the manual TB without any adapter plates

Pat / Coobies if you're talking the mustang 32 valve then the harness may have some plug-n-play issues but would be workable

if you can find a navigator 32 valve complete, swap on his F-150 oil pan, plug in the harness to the firewall and have the exhaust widened, custom tune and it's done

06yz250f camarothatcould did a 2 valve 5.4 swap different animal than the 3 valve when it comes to wiring (which pat can handle) and the ECM issues

the 3 valve VTC is not compatible with the 2 valve ECM, and needs the lockout cam gears, I do not kow about the TB being a direct swap onthe 3 valve but it'd be nice if it was

So, a 4v can use a regular 2v 5.4 pcm with just tuning?

dang, now its a tossup between 3v or 4v.......i'd like to keep this under 3k if possible. which would be more reliable, easier to swap, and get the most power out of?

I think going to the 3v would not be worth the hassle. i would try to find the 4v navigator motor complete with wiring harness for under $1500. If you could do that then you could make it work for the $3000. If not I would shop for a good used 2v 5.4 and go full bolt on with it. You could also look for a complete lightning swap in your $3000 range.

YES, everyone gets so cought in the "engine, OMG!!!" when it's really the trans that needs the specific ECM VS the 2 or 4 valve, hence why every one runs the 4,6 ECM with the lightning swap 5.4 2 valves
