My dad just bought a 1999 f-150 XLT 4.6 4x4 Supercab. The digital miles odometer won't come on until the truck is put in gear and starts moving down the road. Is this normal or not? I would appreciate any input.

Yes, this is normal or common for that to happen on the 1998-2003 with digital odomiter. I repaired mine and have not had a problem sence. The local dealer wanted $350.00 and he would need my truck for about a 7-10 days. I would also need to have the milage written down. The problem is cold solder joints on the board. It takes me about 2-3 hrs. from start to finish to repair the board.
