Help! My truck sounds like a VW bug!

Hi, everyone-

This is my first post on here. I am not the most savvy person when it comes to cars/trucks and could really use some help.

I recently had the clutch slave cylinder go out on my 2003 V6 Ford F150. I looked around and found a guy that seemed reliable and inexpensive. He told me that I should replace the whole clutch since they'd be in there any way and my truck has 78k miles. I agreed to it, and they did the job.

When I got my truck back, I was happily able to shift into gear. However, upon taking the truck out onto the road, it started to make a weird sound like a VW Bug. It happens only when I accelerate quickly. If I go moderately, it doesn't do it much or at all.

I took it back to the guy, and he said the truck sounded normal. That is infuriating because it has never sounded like that before. I want to find out what it is and then go back to him and insist that he fix it. The problem is that I have no idea what they could have done to make that sound. It can't be the clutch itself, can it? It seems only to happen with acceleration.

Your expertise is appreciated.

Thanks,
Gabriel

What does a VW Bug sound like?

It could be that you need a new exhaust system?

Do you got like a recorder or video camera, and show us the sound?

I think he would have had to remove your downpipes from your exhaust manifolds to chagne out the clutch, sounds like it's probably leaking there.

That's probably it... I shouldn't have said "new exhaust system"... he doesn't need one, but it probably wasn't put back together correctly.

IF you are having difficulties with the dude, let it go, and take it to a regular muffler shop... you can get it fixed for probably $20 or less... maybe even free if you talk to them enough.

Yeah, I don't know if I want to go back to that guy. He is using his poor English as a way of acting like he doesn't understand what I'm talking about....thanks for the tip.
