1997 F150 Power Mirror Repair

Anyone had any luck in repairing mirrors that have broken ball (ball/socket) holding mirror in place as well as the tabs controling the movement? I know the driver's side mirror is that way as I've had the mirror off. I'm assuming the passenger side is similar except that it probably has a good ball. There is only partial movement on either side with the controls. Does anyone know of any good epoxy or glue that would repair the broken ball back to the base plate? I've had a difficult time trying to find mirrors for this truck...that aren't very expensive. I'd like to keep the white backer covers that I have currently. I know there are a lot of aftermarket ones that are black or have chrome covers. Just want to keep it like it is.

Thanks!

I had the same problem with my passenger side mirror.

Unfortunately I didn't photo my repair but it's still good 6 months later. I initially tried to glue the ball back on with the good 3M Emblem glue ....... broke back off during installation of the glass. Plan B, I held the ball in place and drilled a 1/16" (I think it was) hole through the ball and into the base where the ball broke off of. I then got a metal pin of the same size as the hole I drilled. I cleaned the mirror real good again, applied J-B Weld to the broken pieces, put the ball back in place and pressed the pin through the ball and into the mirror base. Allowed it to dry 24 hours and reinstalled the glass. Free repair............
BTW, never removed the mirror from my truck.

The Ford manual does not address replacing the mirror glass on a manual mirror. I've never had the manual mirrors so I'm not familiar with what you have ....... sorry. Maybe someone else can jump in and help you out on that one.

If they are the KOOL-VUE FD40L&R and you just bought them then I would return them. Like these:

So what holds the glass mirror on there to begin with? Mime shakes too and I'd like to pull it apart to facilitate a fix.
