1999 f150 starting problems

nice to be here folks. hope some of you can help me with my troubles.

i have a 1999 f150 4.6 v8......76,000 miles

this is what happened. i left my house and my truck started up perfect. i drove to the gas station turned off my truck filled truck up with gas. when i went to start it back up it would start. everything else was turning over to start but it just wouldnt fire up so i could drive it away. the AAA guy told me it could have something to do with the fuel system. if someone here has had this problem and fixed could you tell me how to fix it. it would be much appreciated. i did check fuses n relays and they are fine.

i also have a code scout and no codes came up. i wondering if i even did it right. i just took it out of the package turned it on and plugged it in and turned the key on the truck but didnt try to turn it over. is there something else i have to look for on the code scout?

thanks for your help.

The starter would crank over no problem? Or was it not even doing that? How's the fuel filter and overall maintenance? Need more input, welcome to the site, lots of good info here. Usually the scanner tells you the sequence to do things but you don't need to have it running if it's stored in the computer.

Make sure you got fuel presure, my fuel pump went out the other day. Truck ran fine all the way to work and when I got out to open the gate no start. I just made sure I had power to fuel pump, then opened the bleeder on the fuel rail and nothing. And I did have over 3/4 of a tank........$210 at Napa, dealer wanted $349.

Check the crank position sensor. It's down on the passenger side of the block betweent the block and the a/c compressor. I unplugged mine, plugged it back in and it started. Don't know what exactly the problem was. That's what happened with me.

had a neighbor come over and he said he couldnt hear the pump go on. but he wasnt too sure so we just went into the hood and checked for spark and a few other things. it was getting late but he said to pull a fuel line and see if it pumps gas. was getting dark so i will be perfoming that stuff tomorrow. at least try, im not to good at this stuff, lol. i can build you a house no problem but when it comes to autos look out.

i also noticed my relay for the obd is missing. i took a relay out from under the dash and see if it was the same for the fuel pump under the hood. i looked again today and noticed the OBD relay missing. im good at putting things back. so i dont know if i misplaced it or what im thinking is someone took it while i was at the gas station right before it didnt start. i was inside for a bit and i had left my door open.if someone knew what they were looking for stealing my relay wouldnt be to hard and they could do it quick. dont know for sure if that would keep my truck from starting if someone took it. thats a 20 amp and my neighbor said move the 15 amp up to have the code reader read my computer. does it need to be a 20 amp or was the 15 amp good enough?

thanks for the responses. il definitly be back with other questions.

I had the same issue, I posted on here about it. did a search but cant find it. Maybe you can locate it. there is a part on the back side of the motor, behind the intake on the passenger side, that is some sort of air sensor for start up. cant for the life of me remember what it is called!!!. Anyway i guess they start to stick sometimes, they told me to smack it with something solid to free it up. and low and behold it works. The replacement part is only like fourty buck. But I cannot remember what it is called and its driving me nuts.. Ill come up with it and let you know. I bet thats your problem. Sorry for the non informative information. Maybe someone on here can fill in my blanks....

I got it now its called the IAC.

well it was the fuel pump. went running and noticed my neighbor down the street had a lift in his garage. well one of his garages.

got it all done in two hours and it runs better than it did a few years it went bad. so im thinking my pump was jacked and was slowly going over time.

thanks for the help guy appreciate it.

seems like mine was going sour for a while so it could be starting to have problems. i was driving with the tank almost on E in the desert for a long time so i heard that was working agaist me. might want to change fuel filter if you havent done that in quite some time.
