F150 Advice needed

I'm looking at a 1999 F150 extended cab 4x4 XL stepside. It has 183,000 km. No offroad miles. Very good condition for it's age. Asking price is $8900 and includes a canopy.

Is this price reasonable for the truck?

What should I be looking for mechanically given the age and mileage.

I would say that's a little high for this market. I haven't been shopping around, so I don't know, but that sounds more like a $6,000 truck to me.

lets just say in feb i paid 7200 for my 2000 xlt ext cab 4x4 with the 7700 package with 77,000 miles on it, so i think u would def pay to much for that truck if u were to pay asking price

F150 advice

This is Canada I'm talking from. Vehicles are an easy 20% more here. My wife bought an 08 Subaru Outback (1 year old) in June for $17,800 USD. That vehicle in Canada would cost $24,000. Throw in the 20% factor and the truck would cost about $7200 US.

183,000 Km translates to about 115,000 miles. Is this major component replacement time?

since you converted to USD seem a little more reasonable. but with the market today, i still think that's a little high. earlier in the summer i had thought about selling my truck and best offer i had on it was $3000 USD.

If not already done, at that mileage it's time for a major tuneup. Spark plugs, tranny/transfer case/differential fluids, etc.

What motor?
Good US prices $5,000, $6,000 tops.
So, it may be in your Canadian wheelhouse, pricewise.

My '99 5.4L has 109,000 and drives like it did off the showroom floor.

I would get in it and drive to California, Florida or Canada without a thought.
I had the big 100k service done, big bucks.

I have a 2000 XLT with ALOT of extras, and I would ask around 13k for it, which might be a little high, but it's my baby.

If you check Autotrader.ca you can find an XLT for that price pretty easy.

Thanks for the advice. I did so more searching and found a 99 XLT Extended Cab 4x4 with the 5.4 and 20,000 fewer km for 6900 CAD. Unfortunately it dissappeared in 5 days. I've decided to widen my search for a Supercrew since I have 3 kids and the oldest is 11.

Good used trucks seem to dissappear fast here. I sold my 95 XL Supercab 302 5 spd plain jane with no air con for $4900 in May (when gas was $1.50 per litre here). I was burning 1 quart every second fill up and the tranny was grinding in 3rd and 4th gear.

Is it true that the 4.6 is a better motor than the 302? I babied my 302, changed oil every 2500 miles and it still started using oil after 60,000 miles (100,000 km). Also what are the auto tranny's like and how long do they typically go before a rebuild? I plan to ask the previous owner what he towed with it. My friend destroyed his 97 4.6 automatic with a 3.55 diff towing a 25 foot travel trailer .

Those sold for about $17,000 back in 1999. I almost bought one back then. I would start at $4000 and go no higher than $5000. That is a lot of miles which brings the price down. What can you get an 08 XL for? My neighbor picked up a 98 4x4 xlt for $1000 last month.

If prices are that much higher there, maybe you can fly to a saturated area and drive back?
