Superchips?
Superchips?
Hello all, i have a question about a superchips tuner that a friend let me try. I have a 97 f-150 4.6 5 speed with 125,000 miles on it. It has felt a bit slugish and at times feels like its only running on 7 cylinders. I tried the 1715 micro tuner(i think thats what it was) and imediatly felt a big difference, compared to the way it ran befor it was huge. I only drove it down the road about two miles then programed it back to stock settings. My question is, my truck still feels like it is running with the program. I know it's not because we plugged the programmer back into my buds truck and it didnt say that it was vin locked. Is something screwy going on with my cumputer, will this hurt my motor at all? This has me kind of worried.- Johnny
HI Johnny,
No, this is perfectly normal and that additional performance will go away pretty quickly - it's just happening because when you flash the PCM (either installing a performance tune or going back to stock), you are also clearing out all of the previous adaptive strategy adjustments, and that generally gives a nice boost on vehicles with higher miles that have a fair amount of conservative, back-and-forth to work type driving on them.
By the way, if you ever want to have the best possible performance for that vehicle, give us a cal and talk to us about our Troyer Performance *custom* tuning - we sell the 1715 too of course, but our custom tuning will give you easily a 50% larger power gain than the 1715 will, and in some cases TWICE as much power gain. This is just FYI so you'll know.
Overall, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Good luck with your truck!
