Ford F-150 Raptor Takes on a Hellcat (Video)
The Challenger Hellcat takes a route around the mountain while the Raptor’s journey allows the truck to plow directly through it. So which one will win?
Pitting a Ford F-150 Raptor against a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat isn’t exactly what we’d call a fair fight. The Raptor is built to be able to dominate any type of terrain, while the Challenger Hellcat is more of a beast on a drag strip. So which one will win when both cars face a humungous mountain? That’s what Motor Authority set out to find in the video below.
As one would expect, the vehicles take different paths that suit their abilities better. The Raptor takes a more direct route through a mountain, while the Hellcat takes a longer path around the mountain. It’s a great idea to put two vehicles that are somewhat similar, but at the same time extremely different against one another.
The Raptor, with its 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, various driving modes, beefy tires, and purpose-built suspension is an incredibly capable off-roader. But as Motor Authority finds, the pickup truck’s size makes it a bit of a handful on the old mining trail. Still, the engine’s performance and all of the off-roading goodies make it more than capable at tackling whatever is thrown at the truck.
The Challenger Hellcat, on the other hand, is a monster in its own rights thanks to a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 churning out an insane 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. But it’s old, and dated, and not the quickest car when it comes to corners.
So which one wins? Well, we don’t want to ruin the surprise for you, but the race does end with a surprising victor and the banter between the two hosts is funny to say the least.
