Shelby Raptor: Big Time Performance, Big Time Bucks

Shelby Raptor

The Shelby Raptor represents a huge performance boost over the stock Raptor, but at a cost.

For those who scoff at driving something like a “stock” Raptor, there are plenty of tuners out there who build even faster versions of our favorite trucks. One of the oldest and most respected is Shelby. Originated by the legendary Carroll Shelby, the company doesn’t just build fast cars. They’ve also been offering the insanely capable Shelby Raptor package since 2015.

We caught up with this converted 2014 Shelby Raptor at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, where it hammered for the insane price of $101,200. Considering the original $18,000 base cost for the conversion, it doesn’t appear that the new owner received any sort of discount. But that might be for a valid reason. After all, this particular truck was the 3rd 2014 crew cab built, and not many exist in total.

What you get for that money is a pretty big upgrade on the stock 2010-2014 Raptor’s drivetrain. A Shelby Whipple supercharger is the proverbial cherry on top, helping it produce 575 hp with a custom tune. If you’re counting, that’s 164 hp more than the stock 6.2 liter V8’s output. Other goodies include a Borla Stinger exhaust and dual-fan intercooler.

Inside, a custom Katzkin leather interior and multiple Shelby badges remind you that you’re driving something special. Even when you aren’t planting your right foot to the floorboard. On the outside, custom Shelby graphics and side fender heat extractors let everyone else know this is a special truck. Maybe not $100,000 special, but hey, this one only has 13,000 miles on it at least.

But if you’ve got a little more patience, buying a used 2010-2014 Raptor and sending it off for the conversion will save you a boatload of cash. And you’ll still get an awesome truck.
