Honest Review of a 2015 Ford F-150 (Video)
New truck reviews are great and all, but what’s it like to own and drive a Ford F-150 for several years?
Buying a new truck is almost a surreal experience for most. You’re excited, proud, and maybe a little bit scared all at the same time. But as the miles rack up, you begin to figure out what you really like, and maybe don’t like about your truck. And that’s exactly the experience YouTuber AutoVlog wanted to share after racking up 40k miles on his 2015 Ford F-150.
Unlike your average new vehicle review, living with a truck for three years is a much different experience. So it’s refreshing to hear what a “normal” Ford F-150 owner has to think after driving one long enough to gather a real impression. One of the most surprising issues he’s noticed is the presence of a little surface rust on the front bumper.
Otherwise, the paint and first-year aluminum body have held up well. Our host came away pleasantly surprised by how well the Goodyear Wrangler tires have lasted, too. Even though he admits that he’s driven “mostly highway miles,” roughly 50% of the tread remains.
The Super Cab rear doors have been a bit of a headache though. They’ve proven tough to access in tight parking spots. And Ford had to issue a recall to address latches that wouldn’t open. Another problem, also covered by warranty, came in the form of a broken sliding rear glass window latch. Interestingly, Ford had to replace the entire rear window, but at no cost.
Despite these niggling issues, our host admits “I absolutely love this truck. It’s been a blessing and a lot of joy to own this truck for almost three years.” He raves about the power and sound of the 5.0-liter V8, the metallic Tuxedo Black paint, and “instant” remote start. Road trips are “absolutely phenomenal” and fuel economy has reached 22 mpg on the highway.
Outside of the two aforementioned niggling issues and a set of front rotors that needed to be replaced at 27k miles, the truck has been “worry-free and a joy to own.” Not bad for a model that was the very first in a brand new iteration for the Ford F-150. And proof that even after years of ownership, America’s favorite truck holds up just fine!
