1990 F-150 Does Huge Single-Tire-Fire Burnouts

By -

Ford F-150 owner prepares to buy a new rear tire by finishing off the old one.

Most Ford F-150 owners and drivers in general don’t enjoy buying new tires, but there is one possible upside to new rubber; the old tires have to be discarded. Of course, if you are buying new tires, you can simply drive the vehicle as you normally would until you head to your local tire shop for replacements, but if your vehicle is up to the task, there is fun to be had with these near-death tires.

As the video above from the P.S.I Adrenaline! YouTube channel shows, even if your F-150 will only spin one tire, a big smoke show is clearly the best way to finish off a set of old tires.

Awesome ‘90s F-150

There are few details on the 1990 Ford F-150 in the video above, but we can see that it has an awesome strobe-style striping layout that would have been all the rage when this truck was new. More importantly, it sounds as though this truck has a V8 engine and it sits like a rear-drive model, making the ideal candidate for a righteous tire-slaying machine.

We don’t know which V8 is under the hood, as the 1990 F-150 could have been ordered with either a 5.0- or 5.8-liter, but both of them provided enough power to spin one of the skinny, stock-size tires.

In the case of this 1990 F-150, it is due for a new tire, so the driver wanted to send the old Goodyear tire off in proper form. The humorous part here is that the details actually say that it needed a new tire, not new tires, so we have to wonder if the owner really did only replace one rear tire. In any case, the one that is smoking receives a proper send-off.

Rolling Burnouts

The video begins with a close-up look at the passenger’s side rear tire as the engine of this 1990 F-150 gradually adds power. After a few seconds, that tire starts to spin and a few seconds later, smoke pours from the rear end. A short time later, the smoke is so thick that we can no longer see the rear tire, but when the burnout reaches its peak, the driver lets the old F-150 roll forward and race off into the distance.

Next, the F-150 is way off in the distance, doing another one-wheel burnout in place before racing towards the camera, laying down hundreds of feet of rubber down on the pavement.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
