Monstrous F-150 Conquers the Mud and the Air

By -

F-150 mud truck makes short work of the sloppy pit, even handling a hard nose-down landing without hesitation.

If you visit your local mud bog venue, the odds are good that many of the Ford trucks will be F-250 or F-350 models with a few F-150s, Rangers and Broncos scattered into the mix, while almost every rig is piloted by a guy. The mud truck in the video above from the Mud Boggin in Florida YouTube channel is unusual in the fact that it is an F-150 and it is driven by a woman, earning the pickup the name “Miss Matched”.

While it is relatively unusual to see a woman driving in the mud pit, this F-150 driver handles the worst that the pit has to offer without any problem, storming through the deep mud and handling a hard jump landing with ease.

There are no details included with this video, but in just looking at the Ford F-150 in this video, there is plenty of information to be gathered.

This Ford truck obviously has a serious suspension setup, creating loads of ground clearance and plenty of space for the gigantic mud tires. In the still shots before the mudding action begins, it is clear that this F-150 has a dual shock setup at all four wheels, so in addition to riding high, it has a quality setup that can handle the roughest terrain. That is especially important around the 1:45 mark of the video.

Finally, this old F-150 has the exhaust routed up through the hood, allowing what is clearly a healthy V8 to breathe easily in the deepest mud and water. We don’t know what is under the hood and we wonder if the “Miss Matched” name relates to a non-Ford engine, but that is purely speculation. All that really matters is that this purpose-built F-150 is very good at what it does.

Muddin’ and Jumpin’

During the majority of this video, the big F-150 is shown storming back and forth through the unnamed Florida mud bog without any problems. The driver takes different lines, sometimes hitting deeper water and sometimes sticking to the thicker mud, but in every case, the obstacles prove to be of little challenge to the half-ton Ford.

Around the 1:45 mark of the video comes the toughest hit of the footage, with the F-150 catching a ton of air off of a small jump, nosing down hard into the mud on the other side. We can see the driver’s head slam forward as the truck abruptly comes to a halt, but without any hesitation, she hammers down and continues on her way.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
