2005 Ford F-150 is an All-purpose Fun Machine

By -

Ford F-150 is one of the few vehicles that can roast tires, tear up the drag strip and dirt through dirt successfully.

If you want a vehicle that shine bright on the drag strip or on a dirty trail, a Ford F-150 is an excellent option and the video from the Greasy Cars YouTube channel proves that. The 2005 half-ton in the video above packs V8 power, making it a great ride for the drag strip, but even without four-wheel-drive, this short bed, short cab pickup provides some off-road fun as well.

F-150 Provides Plenty of Fun

There are no details accompanying this video shy of the fact that the truck featured is a 2005 Ford F-150, but we can figure out a few things from the footage. We can tell from the roar of the exhaust that this truck is powered by a V8 and during one of the off-road clips, we can see the 4.6-liter badge on the driver’s door. We are guessing that it has aftermarket exhaust based on the volume of the roar, so the engine could be modified, but we don’t know for sure.

What we do know is that this 2005 F-150 has the short bed and cab configuration, and it doesn’t have any four-wheel-drive badging. Although this truck has the ride height of a four-wheel-drive truck, the front wheels never appear to be helping, so we suspect that it is a rear-drive pickup. Maybe the driver just isn’t using four-wheel-drive, but that doesn’t really matter here, as the F-150 still shines in every clip.

Burnouts, Racing and Off-Roading

The video begins with this Ford F-150 doing a smoky burnout, followed by low-quality clips of the truck storming down the drag strip and doing donuts in the grass. We don’t get to see any numbers for the track pass, but before you can really wonder about that, the video transitions to another high resolution clip of the truck playing in the dirt. The video ends with one more burnout, with the an American flag hanging off of the back end of the F-150 as the truck roasts the tires off into the distance.

F-150 Burnout

There aren’t many vehicles that can be fun on the drag strip and in the dirt, but this 2005 Ford F-150 shows that a half-ton truck can be fun in just about any situation. Crank up your speakers and enjoy!

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
