F-150 Driver Turns His Truck into a Snow Blower

By -

You can use the Ford F-150 as a family vehicle, rock-crawler, lumber hauler, or tow rig. This driver uses his F-150 as a snow blower.

Ford made the F-150 to do a lot of things. The spacious SuperCrew models are perfect for hauling friends and family around town. With the available Power Stroke V6, the F-150 offers both diesel fuel economy and low-end grunt. The Raptor is made for high-speed fun away from paved roads. You can get a snow plow prep package for Ford’s popular half-ton truck, but the Blue Oval never designed the F-150 to be a snow blower. Clearly, nobody told the person in this video.

It comes to us courtesy of the YouTube channel silverado 15 and the truck’s owner, who the channel identifies as “Nick. “Judging by the heavy snow fall and the channel’s About page, the action takes place somewhere in Canada.

It stars a black 2016 F-150 that looks dressed for work, but is clearly ready to play. It has a color-matched aftermarket steel front bumper. According to Nick, it’s also equipped with “full LEDs, LED foglights, [and a] light bar” integrated into the bumper. The back window is covered by a headache rack and there’s a tool box in the short bed. Under the hood, there’s Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 “with an intake.”

Instead of dual rear outlets, it breathes through a “side-exit, no-muffler exhaust” that pumps out the Coyote‘s raspy roar just ahead of the rear passenger-side tire.

Nick puts all of eight of those cylinders to good use in the deep powder of the Great White North by turning an empty parking lot into an automotive slip-and-slide. He turns the steering wheel just enough and applies the right amount of throttle to get the truck sideways – and keep it there long enough to pull off some extended drifts. Snow sprays out of the wheel wells as if a house full of harmless ghosts has just been raided by demons. At certain points, most of the F-150‘s massive body is obscured by a white mist, leaving only its chiseled front end and gleaming headlights visible.

Nick’s F-150 may not be the cheapest or most precise snow blower on the market, but it definitely looks like the most fun snow blower you can use.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum and Ford Truck Enthusiasts, Derek also contributes to other outlets. He started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to get even more automotive content out to fellow enthusiasts.
