"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.
"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.
"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.
"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.
"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.
Today’s Throwback video features a 1990 Ford F-150 pickup with over 220,000 miles jumping – over and over again. The crew filming this flying F-150 has four cameras to give us the best look possible at the truck abuse that takes place in this video, including an in-truck camera that shows the driver and passenger […] More »
This week’s Truckin’ Fast video features a first generation Ford F-150 Lightning in action on the quarter mile. There is no real information on this old school Lightning, but it is clear that it has some major modifications that I suspect include at least one turbocharger. On the first run, this beastly F-150 does an […] More »
We were expecting that the 2015 Ford F-150 would get the revamped 3.5 L EcoBoost from the new Lincoln Navigator, but as FoMoCo has announced the specs for the premium next generation F-150 engines, the 3.5 L EcoBoost offers the same power levels as the 2014 and older models. On the other hand, the 5.0 […] More »
Today’s video features a 2001 Ford F-250 that has been modified to get moving fast enough to take flight off of a pretty big jump. The video is short, but sweet – showing the F-250 getting the big run-up to the jump, blasting into the air and then landing surprisingly well on the other side. Sure, […] More »
This week’s Tire Smokin’ video features a 1994 Ford F-150 that has certainly seen its better days. The cab is pretty beat up along the bottom edge and it looks like the front marker light might be held in with tape. However, this F-150 isn’t being featured for being a show truck – it is […] More »
This week’s Muddy video features an obviously purpose built 1979 Ford F-150 mud drag racing truck in one of the coolest mud racing videos I have seen. Not only is this ’79 F-150 a beast, but the owner stuck a GoPro in different places on the truck for different runs, giving us a close up […] More »
Our newest Question of the Week is a very simple one – based on nothing more than appearance, do you like the new 2015 Ford F-150 or the current 2014 better? The 2014 F-150 has helped to keep the F Series atop the list of the bestselling vehicles in America and during the current (2014 […] More »
