Ford truck owner seeks advice on modding cupholders in an F-150, and he’s looking for a permanent fix over adding adapters.

Granted cup holders are usually the last thing we think about when we are shopping for or modding our Ford trucks, but what happens when you have a favorite oversize thermos or water bottle that you had for a while and do not want to part with it but it won’t fit in your truck’s cupholder?

This scenario obviously poses a problem. Do you reluctantly replace the thermos or water bottle for one with a smaller circumference that will fit the cupholder? Or do some drilling in the truck with a hole saw to create a bigger space? Perhaps search Amazon or the local parts store for different items and ideas that may provide a hack that allows you to use your favorite water bottle while driving and place it in a cup holder comfortably and safely without it tipping or spilling?

F-150 Online forum member “Bsevans5” is experiencing a similar dilemma and he’s looking for a solution so he can fit his favorite  40 oz. hydro flask thermos in his truck’s cupholder.

“Is there any sort of cup holder mod for these trucks?” he asks in his F-150 Online forum post titled “Cupholder Mod?” “I’ve got the jump seat that folds down and has cup holders for an armrest, but it doesn’t fit my big water bottle. Looking for solutions.”

Specifically, “Bsevans5” is seeking a permanent solution and is curious to know if anybody has faced the same fate of having an F-150 with a cupholder too small to fit specific water bottles, and if any members have perhaps used a saw to fix the problem.

“I wish there was someone who had tried the hole saw idea and found a good cup holder to mount in place of those tiny molded OEM ones,” writes “Bsevans5” after receiving a few sound suggestions to replace the thermos with a smaller one or purchase a car cup holder expander adapter with adjustable base.

He has already received plenty of really great ideas from fellow forum members who suggest some sound hacks, products, and different ways that “Bsevans5” could successfully use his tiny cup holder to hold the 40-ounce thermos. However,  he would rather find a permanent solution, and he’s looking for feedback from anyone who may have used a hole frill to modify their truck’s cup holder, and if it was successful and how it was done.
