Stock-looking Ecoboost FX2 is a real sleeper at the drag strip!

Despite all the V6 haters out there, we’re starting to see some seriously fast Ecoboost F-150s at the drag strip. The 3.5 has proven to be a very capable engine that produces serious power with only a simple tune and bolt on parts. Minor upgrades lead to drag race victories.

And that’s exactly what we see in MPT Performance’s latest video. The MPT tuned 2014 Tremor FX2 featured is owned by Thomas Anderson, and it’s a capable beast. His opponent, driving a late model Mustang, finds out quickly just how capable it is.

Thomas’ Ecoboost lays down an impressive 12.3 second 1/4 mile at 109 miles per hour on his way to a big victory.  But how, exactly, does this stock looking V6 powered truck muster that kind of power? Aside from the tune, there are a few bolt-on goodies. But surprisingly, nothing exotic or unreliable.

The tune is MPT’s “Meth/E30,” which is the result of thousands of hours of dyno testing. An AEM water/methanol injection kit allows for a reliable increase in boost.  A Wagner intercooler and 170 degree Reische thermostat keep temps down.

Power increases come from an S&B intake and Vmax ported throttle body. And all that extra power hits the ground courtesy of Caltracs traction bars and 30-inch drag radials. And that’s all there is to it, folks. For a couple grand and some simple upgrades, your Ecoboost can run 12s. Let the V6 haters lull on that for a little while.

For those who are already aware of MPT Performance, this doesn’t come as a surprise. MPT has been building fast Ecoboost F-150’s since their inception. So, if you want to get your boosted F-150 to the next level, they are the ones you want to get in touch with.
