Question Wheels/ Lift Kit

I have a 98 Super Cab 150 4x4 standard trans with stock 16 inch wheels. I want to get a lift kit and bigger tires. I rolled up to this truck place and they gave a price of 2000 bucks for lift kit alone. Is that right? When I balked at that, they said $700 for a wedge job?? I'm not sure about any of this, that's why I'm asking ya'll, my fellow 150 brothers and sisters.
I'm just want a little more lift for the woods, nothing fancy, just some bigger tires and a few more inches of lift.

What are the biggest tires/Wheels I can go to with out getting a lift kit? Any advice? thanks.

The largest you can run stock is 305/70s (33x12.50) on 16x10 inch rims. You will have to trim a little bit of plastic off the front bumper's lower valance, but they will fit a stock 4x4. I am not sure what a "wedge job" is. Maybe it is a body lift but I have never heard it called that. If you get a 3 inch body lift, you can fit 315/75s (35x12.50) on 16x10 inch rims.
