Question Mc Gard Or Gorilla Wheel Locks?

Which ones do you like the best? McGard or Gorilla? I think the McGard (or McGuard) are the best quality. But, I would just settle for any good wheel lock that protects my new Lightning wheels.

Can you give me a part number that works with the Lightning wheel on a 12mm x 175 lug nut? My local dealers have tons of wheel locks by both suppliers but nothing to fit my studs and wheels. ('99 F150 and '00 Wheels)

Why not both wheel locks are gotten off easily. But the more locks you have thieves have to beat more sockets onto the lugs and then have to carry more sockets around with them...Or atleast thats what i was told by a few shady people who happen to be friends.

This is what my research uncovered ...

McGard is the best on the market according to a huge wheel and tire center guy I talked with. They can't buy the McGard Wheel Locks from McGard directly! Ford made a deal with McGard to make wheel locks for the '99 L trucks/wheels to sell through Ford SVT Dealer exclusively. However, you can order them from a Ford Dealer if you have the Ford Part Number. Ordinary Ford Dealers can't look up Lightning part numbers (because they are not SVT Authorized) without a part number. But, with the part number any dealer can order SVT Parts. Here is the Ford Part Number for the McGard Wheel Locks (12mmx175) for the '99 F150.

Ford Parts #: F852-1AO43-AA

Retail cost: $41.47
Wholesale: $34.31

I got my mcguards for 20 bucks from a tire guy...malnars rim and tire. anyways i can check there again and if your interested get a set and send it to ya...I just find it hard to believe the cheapest you can get the 12 x 1.75 locking lugs for is 35 bucks....Ford dealerships suck i do not like going to them they try to screw me over every time i come in i do not give them my money. Hope this helps.

Bill, is that the four locking lugs only? Can't I just go to Advance auto and pick them up?
I have new wheels coming for my '99. Do you know what Ford lug nuts would work (they are AR Baja wheels)? Do I need to buy lug nuts from the dealer also?
I thought I could get all this at the auto parts store.

Here is better information ....

My '99 F150, I found out is a change-over year and no one made much for the Lightning application. It is 12mm by 175 pitch thread. Everything else '00 and newer is 14mm like is on the 3/4 tons. However, this Ford part number McGard will work:

F85Z-1A043-AA However, you can only order it through Ford Parts and it is an "Open-Ended" Locking Nut!! The threads show through when installed. Dumb! Wouldn't buy it for $34 wholesale or any other way.

Gorilla has a standard Locking Lug Nut that will work just fine on the '99 with 12mm by 175 pitch thread. It has a flat washer with
a standard closed top. It has to be special ordered from any dealer and then drop-shipped directly from Gorilla: About $25 with shipping.

Gorilla: 1-800-262-6267
Part #: 716-61F (For '99 Lightning with 12mm x 175 pitch.

McGard: 1-800-669-6887
Gorilla: 1-800-262-6267
AMCOR: 1-800-831-9604 (another maker)
NORRIS: 1-800-457-9348 (another maker)

I hope this might be of help to someone,
